UAE is in the Middle East next to Oman and Saudi Arabia. The UAE tend to be a major player in the global oil industry, and the oil resources tend to be the main basis for the growth of the country. Trade industry tends to be booming as each emirate has a free zone to encourage the companies to set up there. The Abu Dhabi is the federal capital of UAE, and the president of the UAE rules the capital.

Rulers of the Emirates

The United Arab Emirates is the federation of seven Emirates that include Dubai, Ajman, Umm al-Quwain, Sharjah, Fujairah, Abu Dhabi, and Ras al-Khaimah. Each of the Emirates tends to have its ruler, and there is one of the rulers elected as the president and the head of the state of the UAE.  The President is Sheikh Khalifa; the ruler of Abu Dhabi, the vice president, is Sheikh Mohammed, the ruler of Dubai (Katzman, 2010). The other rulers include Shaikh Sultan, ruler of Sharjah, Shaikh Humaid, ruler of Ajman, Sheikh Rashid, Ruler of Umm al-Quwain, Sheikh Saqr, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, Sheikh Hamad, Ruler of Fujairah, and Sheikh Zayed, the former president. Ras Al Khaymah and Fujairah tend to be the main agricultural centers as they are substantially better watered that the other emirates. Dubai is becoming a commercial center, and it now consolidated its position as the main trading route between the East and the West. Dubai is the business capital of the Middle East, and it is a large tourist attraction.

The president of UAE is Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He is the son of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Hassa (UAE 2016). Sheikh Khalifa has the belief in the need for enhancing the active participation of the UAE citizens in the government. That includes the greater empowerment of the Federal National Council. Sheikh Khalifa was the Emir of Abu Dhabi after the death of his father on November 2, 2004, and the following day; he took over as the president of the UAE (BBC News 2015).

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is the ruler of Dubai. Dubai is on the Eastern Coast of the Arabian Peninsula. Dubai is well known for the warm hospitality and the rich cultural heritage. Since 1833, the Al Maktoum family has been ruling Dubai and under their progressive leadership, Dubai has prospered and it now a tourism and business hub for the region (BBC News 2015). Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum became the Ruler of Dubai on January 4th, 2006 after the death of Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Sheikh Mohammed is the Vice President and the Prime Minister of the UAE. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed is one of the most known around the world and being a fun of horse racing and breeding, he owns major horse farms around the world. After the death of his brother in January 2006, Sheikh Mohammed became the emir of Dubai and also the vice president and prime minister of UAE.

Ajman is one of the smallest emirates of the seven, and it comprises of the coast north-east of Sharjah and the southwest of Umm Al Quwain. The emirate covers 0.3% of the .country’s total population (Katzman, 2010). Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi is the tenth ruler of the emirates of Ajman and also a member of the UAE Supreme Council. He became involved in the government after Ajman joined UAE in 1971 and served as the deputy ruler and the crown prince. He was the ruler of the emirate after the death of his father on September 6th, 1981.

Fujairah is the only emirate with a coastline on the Gulf of Oman and none on the Persian Gulf. Fujairah is 1.5% of the total area of the country, and the Fujairah city is the capital of the Emirates of Fujairah. The emirate is famous for the existence of a series of rugged mountains trapped between the Eastern Coast of the Gulf of Oman and Fujairah.  Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Sharqi is the ruler of Fujairah is(BBC News 2015). The ruler served as the minister of agriculture and fisheries before becoming the Emir of Fujairah (UAE 2016). He became the ruler of the throne after the death of his father in 1974. Sheikh Hamad became the ruler of Fujairah when he was only 25 years and under his leadership, the Emirates witnessed significant development in fields of education, construction, and health.

Ras Al Khaimah is on the coast of the Arabian Gulf. It shares mountainous borders with the Sultanate of Oman from the North East and South side. Most of the islands in the Arabian Gulf belong to Ras Al Khaimah. The capital of the emirate is the city of Ras Al Khaimah that is divided into two parts by the creek of KhorRas Al Khaimah (Katzman, 2010). The western part is the Old Town that has the national museum and some government departments. The eastern part is the Al Nakheel which includes the residence of his Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, business centers, and also some government departments.  Sheikh Saqr became the ruler of Ras Al Khaimah after the demise of his father on October 27th, 2010.

Umm Al Quwain is on the coast of the Arabian Gulf, and its territories tend to stretch about 24 kilometers along the coast between Emirates of Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah. The capital of the emirate is the City of Umm Al Quwain that is also the residence of his Highness Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla. Sheikh Saud was the commander of Umm Al Quwain National Guard as a colonel (UAE 2016). He headed the emirate royal court in 1979, and his father names him as the crown prince of the Emirates in 1982. Sheikh Saud helped his father in the management of the affairs of the Emirates and he also oversaw investment projects and established government entities and local enterprises. He became the ruler of the Emirates after the death of his father in 2009.

Sharjah is the third largest and most populous city in UAE. It is on the northern coast of the Persian Gulf on the Arabian Peninsula. The City of Sharjah is the capital of the Emirates, and it is the residence of his Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi. Sheikh Sultan is noted as a historian, and he has also published several books and theoretical works (UAE 2016). He has a doctorate in philosophy with distinction in history and a bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering. Sheikh Sultan became the ruler of Sharjah in 1972 after the death of his brother Sheikh Khalid III bin Muhammed Al-Qasimi.
