First Iteration (Project on .NET)
The first iteration will be more of being introduced to Verizon .NET Project Developers Company. During the introduction, I will familiarize with the management, employees, and way of doing things at the company. I will also have the opportunity of being introduced to the company’s software development team which I will closely be working with during the development of the applications using the .NET Framework. However, this will not only be introduction and orientation to the company since I will be needed to be ready with some things before I start working at the company as an internship in the software development department.
Before the actual day, I will be introduced to Verizon .NET Project Developers Company, I will be supposed to have the required papers to show that I am legible to work in the United States. Therefore, I will go and get the papers from the labor offices before the actual day or my first day at the company. I will also go through a series of interviews at the company since I am not a citizen of the United States. I will also have to ensure that I am prepared in a way that I will gain from my first day at the company so that I will have a smooth working environment.
I will also prepare a series of questions I would like the officer in charge of orientation and introduction at the company to answer. Some of these questions are for giving me a better background thus ensuring I have a quality working background and environment. This will also ensure that I have a firm grasp on the company thus ensuring I will have a nice excellent during my days there.
I would not have started working or being introduced to the Verizon .NET Project Developers Company in preparedness to work there without having the required paperwork which would show that I am legible to work in the United States. Therefore, before the actual day, I was to be introduced to the company, I visited the local labor offices where I was presented with the papers. I proceeded to the company for the orientation the following day. I arrived at the company earlier than most employees. Upon arriving, I headed straight to the security desk where my details were taken after I explained myself to the security officer. He was happy and advised me to wait for manager of the human resource department.
Upon arriving, the manager of the human resource department took me to his office where he asked for the papers from the labor office. He was very happy to learn that I had already picked the papers for myself instead of waiting for the company to do it on my behalf. I went through the registration process at the offices of the human resource manager. Among the things we did inside the offices were being handed a new employee number which I was going to the identified with while in the company. Additionally, I was handed an identification card to ensure that I identified myself as an employee of the company. The manager of the HR department handed me over to another officer who took me around the company in different departments, employees, and managers. He ensured that I had grasped of everything I was supposed to know. Lastly, we visited the Department of IT where the .NET developed was going to take place. I had asked several questions before we concluded the orientation.
According to what I observed, there are very strict labor laws in the United States. I understand that I would not have started working without obtaining permission and being ensured that I was ready to work there. I observed that this was one of the ways by the government of the United States to ensure the citizens were well protected from the infiltration of the foreigners seeking to work in the country at the expense of the citizens who were entitled to such rights.
The fact that I decided to visit the labor offices were one of the highlights of the process of being introduced and oriented to the company. I understand that there was no any other way I was going to show my seriousness with the internship position than doing some of the things for myself though the company would have done it for me. Additionally, this was one of the ways to tell the management of Verizon .NET Project Developers Company that I was ready to work and excel at the company. The company would have probably not considered me for future job openings if I had shown some laxity on my part as a .NET developer.
I observed the kind of organization there was at the company. Everything was done and organized in a way that all the new employees were going to fit into the company’s structure and feel a part of it. Among the things I noticed were the process of getting registered with the company. It was done in a way that all the information concerning the new employee was taken and addressed. I also observed the professionalism with which .NET development was done which was impressive as far as I was concerned.
The process of being introduced and oriented to the company was a success, and there was no better way it would have been done than how I did it. The fact that I realized what was required of me was one of the highlights of the process. The process would have probably taken long and fail to impact on my status as an intern at Verizon .NET Project Developers Company if I had waited for the company to register me as a new employee at the company. I understand this was the result of the process of brainstorming within my mind and the professionalism with which I was going to handle my new adventure at the company.
When I think of what I went through, I see myself as a winner. I would not have succeeded in winning if I had not taken upon myself to do some things for myself. One of the things which made the process of orientation a success was going all the way to register me as a new worker in the United States. I understand that the company would not have taken me seriously if I had not taken it upon myself to do some basic things for myself. The success of some of the things was going to determine how I was going to carry on with the development activities for the rest of the internship.
The iteration was a success as far as I was concerned. However, I have a feeling that I would have gained more and better experience if I some things would have succeeded more than they succeeded. I feel that the time I had for an introduction to other employees and departments was not enough. Additionally, it was done in a hurry which left me with some things I was going to learn once I started working at the company as a .NET project developer.
