The article discusses a study conducted on inpatient psychiatric wards. The exploratory study involved twenty participants, half being in the study group while the other half belonged to a control group.

The researcher developed psycho-educational intervention guidelines. The study was carried out in three main phases. Study results show that participants with schizophrenia who received psycho-educational intervention revealed an improvement in insights which resulted in enhanced compliance with medication. The researcher points out that those participants in the study group showed improved insights and improved education compliance.  Psycho-education focused on increasing patients’ knowledge as well as their understanding of their condition and treatment.

The findings show that increased knowledge enables patient’s Taking Psychiatric Medications to cope more effectively with their illness. Based on the findings of the study, psycho-education interventions had a positive impact on the improvement of insights and compliance with medication on the majority of schizophrenic clients. The knowledge on medication and improvement of insights led to an increase in compliance during the study.

Thus, the intervention has a positive effect on a patient’s well-being and social function. Accordingly, the study shows the efficacy of psycho-education as a means of helping Psychiatric patients to improve compliance with medication.
